ALUMINUM PISTONS

Gray cast iron was used in pistons used in automobiles, then soft cast steel and chrome nickel steel materials were used. Today, aluminum alloy pistons are widely used. Since aluminum alloy pistons have higher heat conducting ability, they can be cooled better than other pistons. Inertial forces also decrease due to their low density. Aluminum alloys are used as piston materials and elements such as silicon, iron, copper, mangan, manganese, nickel, zinc, titanium, chromium and lead are added as alloy elements. By adding these elements to aluminum in different proportions, the aluminum alloy resistance is increased against impacts, heat, corrosion and abrasion.
